Event Description

Dear Members,

Yilkal, one of our most active members, would like to organize a VC4Africa Meetup in London. I think this is a great idea and I am reaching out to you to see if you feel the same way!

As with all VC4Africa Meetups, the event will simply be a place for members to meet one another and share thoughts and ideas. No speeches, no agenda, nothing planned. The loose structure allows for lots of networking. Just remember, everyone is expected to pay for their own drinks : )

Let us know if you will attend and If you want to help out please add your name to the list and help spread the word!

Greetings,
Ben and Yilkal

Dear Members, a delayed connection precludes my attending this evenings meet up. I regret this as I had wished to personally meet and interact with like minded individuals in the pursuit of economic and social development in Africa, especially Yikal as I have a home and family there with nascent business interests, although based in Sierra leone at present. I do trust we, as a community will have feedback from the evenings events to enlighten us all. Have a productive, successful and enjoyable time.

Warm wishes

Adrian

Hi Ben,

Thanks for the update and response. Look forward to hearing from you when you can communicate during/after your travel. Yesterday I went to visit the location for the meetup and to speak to the Tavern operators to make sure we will have space for 30 or so people as have indicated interest on the event RSVP so far, or perhaps more as I have for example people telling me they are coming but have not RSVPed on the calendar.

I have given the event some thought and here is some suggestions for you to give the event more shape.

1) I was thinking of asking members and particularly those attending to send/submit a paragraph or so of descriptions of their projects/ideas with contact details if they are entrepreneurs or a paragraph of description of their company/personal interest if they are investors to us. We can then simply print this collection(likely no more than 3-5 pages of A4) and hand it out to the attendees as a takeaway which they can review and communicate about directly afterwards.

2) Regarding reserving a corner for the event at the tavern: based on my conversation yesterday the people at Fitzroy told me that given December 4 is close to the pre-holiday rush of company related events, they can not guarantee us that there will be place for 30 or so people unless we reserve. If it was summer time, it won't be much hassle as people can just flow over out onto the tavern's area outside. With the winter cold that will not be possible. The tavern has an upstairs and a down stairs location. They suggested we reserve the downstairs location for that day by paying 50 pounds. Then there will be guaranteed space for meetup attendants. I think it is reasonable to do that and I can split that with a friend for now and pay it in advance.

If we make the contribution for the reservation mandatory I think it might discourage attendance so we shouldn't do that. But 1 pound voluntarily will almost cover all of the expense in a fair way. What do you think about this? Does it sound reasonable to do for you? If you agree, I will just split the 50 with the friend and pay for the reservation rather than risk not being able to hold the event/those interested inside.

If you think we shouldn't ask people to contribute to the reservation fee, then my friend and I can pay for reservation but perhaps credit for printing expenses of summaries and reservation should be mentioned on back/bottom of handout or something.

At the end we can load up pictures and project/investor summaries to VC4Africa site for others to check out as well.

Please let me know what you think.

Dear Attendee,

1- Thank you for RSPVing for the December 4, VC4Africa networking event in London.

2- In order for the meetup to have more shape/usefullness to all attending myself and Ben think it will be useful to gather a paragraph summary of projects(for entrepreneurs) that they may be working on and/or a paragraph summary/profile of company/interest for investors with contact info. This, we hope will be printed and given away to attendees as a take away to facilitate direct communication afterwards.

Please feel free to send me a paragraph summary of no more than 8-10 lines describing your interest/project/profile that can then be included in this brief take away document.

Thanks,

Yilkal

If people can send me a paragraph summary of their project (entrepreneurs) or company profile for investors, then we can possibly print out and give out this summary for attendees as a take away.
