Good Afternoon,

I am currently involved in a consulting project for a company based in West Africa who are interested in importing sugar, cement and rice. The company have an order for 12,500MT every quarter. The problem i am having is finding out how to connect with a top 25 bank who will be able to furnish the required letter of credit, I have been told that the company needs to deposit $1 Million into a local bank here who will then be able to use their corresponding bank. I have also been informed that we can use broker who would cahrge 15% to secure the letter of credit.

Are any members out there that are familiar with the correct procedures who may be able to clarify my options.

Regards
Ivor

Hi Ivor

I use to be involved in commodities - without getting directly involved in this, do a search on commodities blogs - there is a lot of info on which banks might be good to go with for west africa

You don't need to pay a broker to secure a LOC - the bank issues this if the money it is verifying for actually exists in the account.

Don't have the money released until FOB or until actually in the owners hands. Way too many frauds and problems happen when it is released before any movement of product happens.

Authenticate - usually people put the LOI (letter of intent) - the request for the product - on business letterhead that has a watermark so that it can't be altered or duplicated. Check/vet/verrify all the names/signatures on all paperwork - with the way some of these float around the internet, many are stolen and signatures are wiped out and overridden on an official document or the signature is kept and the information itself is altered.

Just extra precautions that I learned from dealing in commodities - this is essentially the same thing (global trade is commodities)

Jaxi :)

Hi Michael, I have a 172 acres site for real estate development and the schematic town planning layout is completed as well as the house designs. However the project requires funding to cover building of show houses and other marketing costs as well as completion of first phase of infrastructure facilities.

If interested, please forward your email so that I can send comprehensive details of project and current stage for your assessment. William
