Germany's Schwenk Group invests 25 million Euro in cement plant
German technology will be transferred to Namibia as the Schwenk Group of Ulm, Germany is investing some 25 million Euro in Namibia for a large-scale cement manufacturing plant. The factory is expected to produce 600,000 tonnes of cement annually and provide 300 new jobs.

The cement plant will be known as Ohorongo Cement and is currently located on the Sandberg farm between the towns of Otavi and Tsumeb, about 400 kilometres north of the Namibian capital Windhoek. It is close to large reserves of limestone, an integral raw material in the production of cement. Ohorongo will be the only cement factory in Namibia.

Telecom Namibia had signed a construction and maintenance agreement and supply contracts for the West Africa Cable System(WACS). WACS is a submarine fibre optic cable which will link countries in southern Africa, Western Africa and Europe, with at least 3.84 terabits per second of international bandwidth. Planned landing points include Namibia, South Africa, Angola, DRC, Cameroon, Nigeria, Togo and other African countries on the west coast. The submarine cable
will also have landing points in Cape Verde, Canary Islands, Portugal and the UK. “The landings in Namibia, the DRC and Togo will provide the first direct connections for these countries to the global submarine cable network,” Telecom Namibia said.
