1.1 Introduction
Molyn Credit Limited is a credit and financial advisory services company serving the low income population currently in Kenya and in future beyond. Poverty eradication is our passion and our dream is one where nearly all people live free of hunger, malnutrition, have the basic needs such as safe drinking water, education, proper waste disposal, a world free of HIV/AIDS due to reduced idleness and drug usage and overall improved living conditions both in the rural and urban areas. In line with our overall goal, we offer credit and financial advisory services to self- help groups/community based women groups in marginalized areas of the society and small and microenterprises (We are currently offering loans to second hand retail dealers in Toi market in Kibera, Youth groups in Kibera who are mainly in the car washing business and retail business women in Ngara market.), low cadre civil servants, low income employees of State Corporations and selected partner companies after a business understanding and agreement is reached, among others. In addition to offering credit, we carry out business training, monitoring and evaluation to borrowers and potential borrowers to help them utilize loaned funds well and to consequently improve their living standards.

Our success can be attributed to providing clients/customers with a range of innovative products towards poverty alleviation related activities such as loans for farm inputs, low cost clothes vendors, car washing, vegetable and fruit vendors, kiosk operators etc to improve the income brackets of the borrowers.

1.2 Mission Statement
The core mission of Molyn Credit Ltd is to become the preferred provider in offering innovative, customer focused yet relevant quality financial services to the low income population in Kenya and in future beyond.

1.3 Company Vision

The company is guided by the short and long term prospect of being a customer oriented firm that incorporates the values, needs and preferences of the customer to develop products and services that address the direct needs of the customer.

Molyn’s vision is to leverage our entrepreneurial drive and company brand to grow into a diversified company by pursuing value-adding opportunities and opening up branches both locally and within the region.

1.4 Company Objectives
Molyn aims to add value by addressing the needs of our stakeholders, employees and the broader society at large, while growing and ensuring the profitability of our business.

1.5 Company Principles
Molyn is committed to operating within the highest standards of professional and business ethical values by building among its directors, management and employees a culture of honesty, trust and cooperation.

The company operates under the tenets of corporate social responsibility, professional ethics and the incorporation of customer ideas in the growth and development of the existing and new products as well as the overall development of the company.
1.6 Products and Services
a) Loans to Self Help/Community based Groups.
The potential of using institutional credit and other financial services for poverty alleviation in Kenya is quite significant. About 18 Million or 60% of the population are poor and mostly out of the scope of formal banking services. According to the National Micro and Small Enterprise latest baseline survey , there are close to 1.3 million MSE’s employing nearly 2.3 million people or 20% of the country’s total employment and contributing 18% of overall GDP. Despite this important contribution, only 10.4% of the MSE’s receive credit and other financial services. The formal banking sector has regarded the informal sector as risky and not commercially viable
MCL offers “small” loans of between ksh 5,000 (usd 70) and ksh 100,000 (usd 1,400) to women within legally registered self help groups of 5-20 members who have ideas about income generating projects or who are already in income generating projects whose growth is limited by lack of capital.
The members are not required to make pledges of collateral, thus the Grameen Bank idea of joint liability is relied on to induce sanctions that help to discipline borrowers.
Risks:
The only risk is the risk of delinquency of the loan. However all measures are put in place to ensure that delinquency is kept at less than 2%.This is achieved through:
i) Frequent follow up-Field officers are required to make weekly/bi-weekly/monthly visits to group members who have running loans thus ensuring that collections are promptly carried out.
ii) Progressive lending thus enabling the lender to test the borrowers with small loans at the start in order to screen out the worst prospects before expanding loan scale.
iii) Borrowers within one group co-guarantee one another thus joint liability provides an insurance against individual risks.
Even if an individual project fails and some of the borrowers are unable to repay, the group as a whole might still be able to do so. Group liability will therefore complement modest collateral requirements.
Success of an individual project should be sufficiently verifiable by other group members. To ensure this then borrower groups have to be self selected.
Borrowers within these groups are classified as the poor of the poor. Individuals within the group are often persons from families who live on less than usd 1 a day.
b) Asset Financing
The range of products and services under this category caters for individuals without regular monthly salaries, businesses, small and micro enterprises, sole traders, partnerships, clubs, welfare groups, and associations. Specific assets can be used as collateral in applying for a secured loan. Assets usually considered for security are shares of listed companies or motor vehicles.
The loan term as well as amount lent will vary depending on both the applicant’s preference and the value of the pledged assets. Interest rates are competitive
c) Unsecured Personal Loan Products and Services
Employees earning regular monthly salaries can apply for loans to be repaid through check-off administered through the employer. The approval of the employer, who also agrees to remit deductions from her employees to Molyn, is required before the loan is disbursed.
Unlike the mainstream financial institutions who focus on the middle- and higher-income market, Molyn Credit Limited has identified its market as being the thousands of modest-earning, but salaried Africans who are the country’s teachers, soldiers, nurses, policemen, civil servants , parastatal employees and low cadre private sector employees . Until recently, these formally employed lower-income Africans could only access rudimentary banking services, and were often seen as “unbankable” by the mainstream financial service institutions, due to size of loans and lack of security this market requires

Main products:
Salary Advances (1-3 months)
Short-term loans of between 1 and 4 months can be given to employees who apply for them. An employer’s approval is required and the loan should not exceed three times one’s basic salary.
Consolidation Loans:
Clients currently having many deductions on the pay slips towards loan repayments can now consolidate their loans through Molyn. This results in one loan repayment replacing the numerous loan repayments which were earlier on the pay slip.
Top up on Loans:
For employees still paying an existing loan and have a further need to borrow, Molyn offers top-up on earlier loans provided that their pay slips can accommodate all the requirements. This means taking an additional loan which will increase the money available for your immediate use.
Bridging Loans:
To facilitate an employee take up a bigger loans within their Savings and Credit Corporative Organizations(SACCO’s), Molyn carries out bridging of loans after an agreement is reached with the respective SACCO.
Being Developed:
o Opening up of a countrywide/regional branch network.
